Sister Liedy (First Counselor in the Stake Relief Society) gave a wonderful overview of the Daughters in My Kingdom book. She reminded us to follow the counsel to 1. Increase our faith and personal righteousness, 2. Strengthen our homes and families, and 3. Serve Others. I wish I could write more of her lesson, however, I was sitting in the back and her sweet soft voice was hard for me to hear. But I did hear her ask us as sisters and brethren to study the words of this book.
We had the pleasure to have President Campbell teach the rest of the meeting. He first ask us if anyone knew what the three fold mission of the stake is. About a little over three years ago, when the stake presidency was reorganized they came up with these three statements that they wish for each member in the stake to up hold. They are:
1. Daily Scripture Study
2. Hold a current temple recommend and USE IT
3. Invite others to come unto Christ
President Campbell challenged us to study The Book of Mormon more than ever this year. Especially seeing that in Sunday School we are learning about The Book of Mormon but also in our own personal study. He said that the theme for this ward conference comes from Elder Richard G. Scott's talk from October 2011 conference and it goes;
"Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. They can become the key to open the channel to communion with our Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ."
He also quoted Gordon B. Hinckley, when in August of 2005 he challenged the church to read The Book of Mormon before the end of the year. President Hinckley and the 1st Presidency stated;
"Those who read (President Campbell suggested "study" as well) the Book of Mormon will be blessed with an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord, a greater resolve to obey His commandments, and a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God."
Listed below are some scriptures we went over during the lesson. Read and ponder them and how they make you think and feel.
Alma 5:33-34
Mormon 6:17
2 Nephi 9:41
In Jacob 3: 1-2 it says:
1 But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction.
The Stake Presidency has asked us that each time we pray to make sure to pray for three specific things:
1: Pray for our Bishopric
As we do so we will have a greater love and support for them.
2: Pray for those whom you Home and Visit Teach.
We will gain and deeper love for them and be able to be better in tune with the spirit for inspiration of
how WE can serve them.
3: Pray for opportunities to invite someone to come unto Christ and be taught by the missionaries AND
to have courage to open out mouths.
President Campbell ended with a scripture in Alma 7: 23-24 and asked us why do we do these things (meaning why do we keep the commandments and follow Christ)? Because we want to become who the Lord wants us to become.
I know that the words of our Stake Presidency are true. I know that if you follow the three fold mission of the stake your testimony will grow and you will have a deeper desire to serve God. I also know that if we as a ward family pray for the three things listed above we will have a deeper love for those around us. I know especially as sisters, if we pray for those who we visit teach we will grow stronger as a sister hood and be strengthened by the Lord to up hold His Kingdom.
